John Mensah Sarbah-- Together with compatriots formed the Fante Public Schools Limited for the betterment of higher education, leading to the formation of Mfantsipim in 1905. He was a founding scholar of Rev. James Picot and a prominent Ghanaian lawyer. He gave the school motto: "Dwen Hwe Kan" which means think and look ahead.

First Headmaster of the school. He was 18 years old when he took over the school, with a total enrolment of seventeen (17)
boys.
