Between 1889 and 1890 the school, by then co-educational, had to be resurrected from death through the unique instrumentality of Rev Parker (a legend). Incidentally in 1907 the school campus was depleted of human existence except eight boys who courageously braved the ‘Cape of Storms’ to meet for mutual help.

It was Rev Balmer who on a school inspection from Sierra Leone came to their rescue to revive Mfantsipim. Rev Balmer christened them as the "Faithful 8" in 1910.

In 1976 when the school celebrated her centenary anniversary, a monument was commissioned in their honour. Their names are inscribed on the plinth of the monument.
